Insects & Mosquitoes
Occasionally, as in any country insects can be a nuisance .To discourage ants and fleas never leave food out uncovered. Put all fresh produce, especially sweet things like jam and marmalade, into the fridge and dry goods should be securely sealed and placed in wall mounted cupboards. Never leave kitchen waste in the house -tie it into plastic bin bags and dispose of as instructed. Never leave used glasses or plates out for any length of time .Place them in a bowl of water if you don't have time to wash them properly. If you are invaded by insects, deterrent sprays should effectively deal with the problem and keep them at bay. Report any serious infestation to your representative immediately.
Mosquitoes
A common nuisance in hot countries and their bite can spoil a holiday, They're relatively easy to keep away if you take the following precautions.
Always close doors and windows or shutters before you switch on the lights inside the villa - bright light will attract them.
Use an electric mosquito machine in each room of the villa where you need protection They are widely available and relatively cheap .Just plug them in and follow the instructions. The most effective ones are the ones that combine the use of tablets and oil.
Before going to bed check corners and behind curtains to ensure that no mosquitoes are hiding .Please don't squash them onto white walls, it may be satisfying but it makes a mess that cannot be easily removed.
Plumbing
To avoid any problems in the drainage system please DO NOT throw any products into the toilet. This includes tissue please place in the bin provided. The system here is different to that in the UK and a blockage will cause considerable inconvenience and during the summer season plumbers are hard to find and are very costly.
Tap Water
The water here in Cyprus is safe to drink and usually in your villa you will have a separate tap for the drinking water. However if you wish to buy bottled mineral water there is a wide selection to choose from available from supermarkets and kiosks.
